Where Do I Begin?
There can be many reasons why we don’t know our ancestors; adoption, forced removal from native countries, etc. But guess what… They know you! Your ancestors know exactly who you are because along with your spirit guides and angels, ancestors are the foundation of your ‘Spiritual Team’. They watch over you to protect you, guide you, and answer your questions.
1. Talk to them: Even though they know who YOU are, introduce yourself and state the purpose of your communication. For example, “Hello Ancestors, my name is ______ and I am initiating contact with you to help me discover more of who I am on this spiritual journey”.
2. Create an ancestral altar: This builds connection and mutual engagement between you and your beloved ancestors. Place your favourite table cloth, candles, crystals, and incense on the altar. If you have pictures of your ancestors available, place them there too. Eventually, you’ll want to leave offerings on the altar as gifts to honour them.
3. Ask them for signs. This builds your trust in the ancestral power. You can ask for specific signs that they are around you, like seeing a white feather, or hearing a certain song.
4. Offer them a routined prayer or mantra. Create a prayer or a mantra that you repeat when you wake up, before you drift off to sleep, or as you go through your day. Make it easy to verbalize so it becomes a habit. For example, “Ancestors, I implore you to inspire me with the right thoughts, the right words, and the right actions”. These short prayers will give you a boost of energy and a large scope of protection, because you have brought your ancestors to attention.
5. Utilize more of your intuition. It is no secret that all of our Spiritual Team (Ancestors, Angels, Spirit Guides, etc.) speak to us through our intuition. It is our responsibility to trust it more, because the messages coming through are not necessarily from us, it could be from them.
