Depression is something all earthlings have experienced or will experience in their life course. As with the weather, humans have different seasons: Summer (Bliss and Inspiration), Spring (Creativity and Innovation), Autumn (Liberation and Renewal), then Winter (Depression and Reflection).

However, some seasons of depression can last longer than what one may like. Medically, this can be attributed to chemical imbalances in the brain. Spiritually, depression is defined as the manifestation of unhealed trauma, stored anger, and even an unexplored purpose. In some cases, it is even a byproduct of a spiritual awakening.
Once this negative energy hits you, it can be very easy to attach yourself and become comfortable with it because of it’s deceitful nature. At BGWM, we’ve composed three ways to help combat one’s attachment to this overwhelming state of mind*.
- When you recognize it, tell yourself that it is a foreign feeling which does not belong in your body. Do not make room for depression, block it out by DECLARING (affirming) it’s unfamiliar essence.
- Tell the destructive behaviours that accompany it: “You are not my friend, you do not provide me any comfort”. A lot of times a depressed person can turn to toxic habits to numb the issue; which it does but for a very limited time.
- Release the possession by refraining from saying “My depression”. The power of language is so very potent, that when you claim something as yours, it latches on to you even tighter, strengthening the bond. How many times have you heard someone say “My anxiety’s acting up again” or “My depression won’t go away”?
Remember, it does not belong to you unless you want it to.
